Wool & Yarn

Our beautiful flock is shorn twice a year by a local young lady. She is amazing, kind and patience, twisting her body into a pretzel to support them and gently shave their fleece.

Next, I skirt (remove hay and debris) by hand, then wash the fleece in very hot water to remove dirt and lanoline. It really important not to agitate the wool at all, if you do it will felt.

Once it is dry, and fluffy, off to the mill it goes to be made into yarn. I use a solar mill that is app. 12 miles from home.

After a few months it ready, once home I give it a final rinse, to remove any dirt it’s picked up in the process, and re-twist.

This is our first year of offering yarn, many more incredible colors to come. We will be offering natural colors from off white to dark grey/black. I can’t wait to see what the tweedy color looks like in yarn.

Coming Soon..
